The Malossi variator is the front pulley that drives the scooter's rear wheel through the belt. Scooters are built at the factory to change through 3 automatic ratios, and the variator is the main reason that happens. Malossi variators are designed to improve scooter performance simply, with no bodges, and to change through 5 ratios instead of 3: they add one ratio at the bottom and one at the top, making the drive more linear. It fits with no modification, replacing the standard unit and giving the drive belt more acceleration. Replacing the variator alone brings noticeably satisfying results from the first kilometres.
